Batam, Riau Islands (ANTARA News) - The Fifth ASEAN Jazz Festival, to be held in Batam, June 22 and 23, 2012, is expected to attract about 500 tourists, particularly from Malaysia and Singapore.

The tourism and creative economy ministry, in cooperation with a number of travel agents, has promoted the upcoming festival overseas, Raseno, of the ministry`s marketing directorate, said here Saturday.

"It has also been promoted at Singapore`s seaport," he said, adding that tour and travel agents are selling festival tickets.

He said he hoped the music event would help promote Batam`s tourism industry.

"We are targeting two million foreign tourists to visit Riau Islands Province this year," Raseno said.

Further, Fifth ASEAN Jazz Festival`s art director Dwiki Dharmawan noted that Indonesian musicians said 10 foreign jazz musicians would perform during the festival.

The 10 prominent jazz musicians are Erik Hargrove from the US, Nathasa Pattamapongs and Arnat Lamwongsrikul from Thailand, Jerry De Leon from the Philippines, Steve Thornton from Malaysia, Jeremy Tordjman from France, Kamal Musallam from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Carlos Kamil from Bogota (Colombia) and Ian Iron from Britain.

The festival will also feature noted Indonesian jazz singers, such as Tri Utami, Barry Likumahua and Andien.
