Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Lady gaga`s concert supposedly to be held in Jakarta next June 3 is cancelled due to security concern, spokesman of local promoter Big Daddy said.

"After careful consideration, Lady Gaga`s management has cancelled the concert this morning," Big Daddy`s President Director Michael Rusli said here on Sunday.

Furthermore, Big Daddy`s lawyer Minola Sebayang explained threats from several groups of people in Indonesia towards the safety of Lady Gaga`s concert makes the artist`s management decide to cancel the show.

"We actually have fulfill 95 percent of requirements to hold the concert in Jakarta," Minola said.

Meanwhile observer from SETARA Institute Hendardi said the cancellation of Lady gaga`s concert in Jakarta is proof of the local authority`s weakness towards pressure from some groups of people.

"The cancellation is a reflection of Indonesian authorities` weakness when being pressured by radical groups of people," Hendardi said here on Sunday.

Opposition towards Lady Gaga`s plan to hold concert in Jakarta spread to various areas in Indonesia. People from groups such as the Islam Defenders Front (FPI), Indonesia`s second largest Muslim community Muhammadiyah and politicians had called on the promoter to cancel Lady Gaga`s concert in Jakarta.

Ruham, a politician from the National Awakening Party (PKB), said that the opposition was aimed at protecting the younger generation from moral corruption, because Lady Gaga often dresses inappropriately.

The Indonesian Children Protection Commission (KPAI) also came out in opposition to Lady Gaga in Jakarta, citing it could cause the demoralization of children.

KPAI Deputy Chairman Asrorun Niam Sholeh criticized promoter Big Daddy for encouraging students to watch the concert by allowing them to purchase tickets by paying in installments. The incentive could clearly demoralize the children, he said.

Meanwhile support towards Lady gaga`s concert in Jakarta came from he Indonesian Youth National Committee (KNPI)`s chairman in charge of foreign relations, Abhiram Singh Yadav, saying that art and culture are part of international diplomacy and, therefore, Lady Gaga`s plan to come to Jakarta must be supported.
