"These coastal villages has been discussed with the marine and fisheries department."
Provincial government spokesman Andreas Jehalu declared here on Wednesday that the government will provide coastal villagers with business capital and fishing tools to improve their livelihood.
According to Andreas, more than one million people live in 808 villages along the coast of East Nusa Tenggara.
"The management and development of these coastal villages has been discussed with the marine and fisheries department for all districts and municipalities in the province," Andreas remarked.
He added that the marine and fisheries department has agreed to focus on coastal village development starting 2013.
The local government is now collecting data from coastal dwellers to determine their social and economic conditions, as well as the types of business that they can develop.
