Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The chief patron of the ruling Democrat Party, Susilo Yudhoyono, said that the party remains serious with its commitment to fighting corruption.

"I am consistent. (And) the Democrat Party will never protect any member proven involved in corruption," he said at a meeting with party cadres at Hotel Sahid here on Wednesday evening.

He said the Democrat Party would continue to hold the doctrine in the midst of media reports of corruption cases involving party members.

With regard to it he called on cadres who feel unable to practice clean, smart and civil politics to leave the party.

He also appealed to party cadres to avoid tricks or being made a victim in corruption cases.

"Those who become members of the House of Representatives or regional legislative assembly must not play with national or regional budgets," he said.

He called on the party members to put themselves in order by asking members in the parliament and government to sign integrity contract.

"That is my standpoint. It is clear, frank and easily understood. I ask your support, cooperation. After putting ourselves in order we will even become a party which is consistent in its fight," he said.

With that in mind he hoped the party would make a success again in the 2014 general elections.

On the occasion Yudhoyono who is also president, mentioned data that show that the number of party cadres in provincial, district/city legislative assemblies involved in corruption cases were smaller than that of other parties.

This, however, is not a reason for reducing the spirit to fight corruption, he said.
