Fasting begins in many countries

Makkah (ANTARA News) - Muslims in a number of countries have begun observing fasting as the holy month of Ramadan started Friday, July 20, while the beginning of Ramadan in the rest of the countries will be tomorrow.
This is the month of empathy, compassion and solidarity.
IINA reported that among those countries that have announced that today is the first day of the holy month, included Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Sudan and Lebanon.
Among the GCC states, only Oman is observing fasting on Saturday.
India, Pakistan and Malaysia are included among the countries where fasting will begin on Saturday.
Saudi Supreme Court announced that Ramadan will begin on Friday after sighting of Ramadan crescent on Thursday evening. Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz and Crown Prince Salman bin Abdul Aziz, deputy premier and minister of defense, greeted Muslims on the advent of Ramadan.
King Abdullah said in his message, "We have received the blessed month of Ramadan for which souls and hearts are eagerly waiting. This is the month of empathy, compassion and solidarity. The Holy Qur`an was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in a blessed night of the holy month of Ramadan that is better than thousand months. We are really pleased to receive this month."
