Jakarta (ANTARA News) - State-owned electricity company PT PLN Persero is planning to build 30 steam power plants with an individual capacity of 20 megawatts (MW), according to PLN director Nur Pamudji.

"The deals will be signed next month," he said here on Wednesday, adding that the construction of steam power plants would require an investment of Rp3.6 trillion.

The EPC (engineering, procurement, construction) will be auctioned under a regular scheme and it requires compliance. Later, the power plant construction will be fully funded by PLN, Nur explained.

For the construction of the steam power plants, he added, the company would collaborate with PT Barata Indonesia Persero, PT Pindad Persero, PT Boma Bisma Indra Persero, and PT Nusantara Turbine & Propulsion.

"The first phase of our fast-track programme (FTP) involves a target of 10,000 MW of electricity. In the first half of 2012, we have reached 4,450 MW. By December 2014, we expect to produce 5,427 MW of additional power, which would make it a total of 9,877 MW," Nur said.

"During the second phase of FTP, which is for the 2013-14 period, the target is to generate an additional 4,649 MW. We expect to add another 1,642 MW by 2016," he added.

The second phase involves power plant projects with a total capacity of 10,047 MW, comprising 1,753 MW from hydroelectric power plants (17.4 percent), 4,925 MW from geothermal power plants (49 percent), 3,025 MW from steam power plants (30.1 percent), and 280 MW from gas power plants (2.8 percent).(*)
