Biak, Papua (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Red and White flag has attracted fewer buyers on the occasion of the nation`s Independence Day on Friday, sellers said.
"Sales dropped by about 20 percent ahead of this year`s commemoration."
The country is commemorating its national day on August 17 the day when the late President Soekarno proclaimed Indonesia independent ending a three and a half century colonization by the Dutch.
The independence proclamation came after the end of the World War Two with Japan, which occupied the country for three years surrendering to the Allied forces in 1945
Deden, one of the sellers from Garut, West Java, said he earned much less from the sales of the flag and banners in red and white compared to last year commemoration.
"Sales dropped by about 20 percent ahead of this year`s commemoration," he said, adding "perhaps more people care less about the commemoration."
He said he had to bring back the remaining pieces of flag and the banner to Garut to be sold next year.
