Banyuwangi, East Java (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian navy has launched new ship KRI Klewang equipped with sophisticated technology that it could not be detected by enemy radar.

The ship, launched on Friday in this East Java coastal city was built by "North Sea Boats Pte Ltd" or PT Lundin Industry Invest in cooperation with ship architects of LOMOCean from New Zealand.

It took 24 months to build the ship, said Lizza Lundin, the owner of PT PT Lundin.

Lizza Lundin said the 63-meter long KRI Klewang is one of the most modern warships in the world

He described the ship as unique, a product of a number of sophisticated technologies .

It is designed for patrolling mission along beach area with a high speed suitable for the characteristics of the coastal areas in Indonesia, he said.

The ship is relatively light, efficient in maintenance cost with the ability to escape radar detection, he added.

The ship, however, is not yet fully completed and is still to go on trial operation before it is ready for operation in 2013. (ASG/YH)
