Presidential special staff for international relations Teuku Faizasyah said in a statement on Wednesday that the visit to Mongolia is expected to result in improved bilateral relations between the two nations.
"Indonesia will also explore business opportunities in Mongolia, which has a strategic position in Central Asia," he added.
Mongolia is rich in mineral resources that Indonesia needs in order to boosts its energy resilience.
After arriving in the country, Yudhoyono will hold meetings with Mongolian President Tsakhia Elbegdorj, the country's prime minister, Norovyn Altankhuyag, as well as House Speaker Zandaakhuu Enkhbold.
The head of state is also scheduled to meet Mongolian businessmen.
On September 7, President Yudhoyono and his entourage will leave for Vladivostok, Russia, to attend the APEC Summit.
On the sidelines of the APEC Summit, he will hold bilateral meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Hu Jintao, Mexican President Felipe Calderon, Peruvian President Ollanta Moses Humala, and Chilean President Sebastian Pinera.
President Yudhoyono will also meet with Russian businessmen.
During the summit, Russia will hand over the chairmanship of APEC to Indonesia, which will host the APEC Summit in 2013.
