Europe and the United States, both traditional markets for Indonesian commodities, are predicted to suffer economic contraction in 2013.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) predicted Indonesia`s exports in 2013 will remain in the doldrums on weak demand in the world market.

Europe and the United States, both traditional markets for Indonesian commodities, are predicted to suffer economic contraction in 2013, Natsir Mansyur, deputy chairman of the Kadin said.

Meanwhile China, which also suffers on weak demand from the two world largest markets, will likely turn to other potential markets including Indonesia to dispose of its large surplus, Natsir said.

Chinese products which are known to be highly competitive in price, are feared to flood the domestic market causing marketing problem for local products , he said

The government needs to forestall the impact of the shift in the world trade balance by adjusting its policy to the prevailing condition in the world market, he said.

The government and the business sectors should produce an effective marketing strategy to keep the country competitive in the global market, he said.

Kadin general chairman Suryo Bambang Sulisto said information technology, telecommunications technology and transport technology are vital to support trade.(*)
