"So, there is a lot of potential overlapping and confusion."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Law and Human Rights Ministry has announced plans to set up an inter-ministerial forum, in an effort to develop a well-defined Indonesian foreign policy, the ministry`s secretary general Bambang Rantam said in a press statement here on Friday.

"Good coordination is essential for inter-ministerial synergy," Bambang said, adding that the main objective of the inter-ministerial forum would be to create mutual understanding and facilitate effective cooperation among the ministries.

"The forum is essential to developing a well-defined foreign policy in order to deal more effectively with international political issues," he went on.

Bambang expressed hope that a joint inter-ministerial forum, organised under the coordination of the Coordinating Ministry of Political, Legal and Security Affairs, would be an historic development for Indonesia.

"Besides, international cooperation is an essential part of the Indonesian foreign policy. We believe development goals should be prepared giving due consideration to the interests of each and every country," he explained.

"At present, it`s as if each ministry in Indonesia issues its own foreign policy. So, there is a lot of potential overlapping and confusion," Bambang noted.

"With improved coordination, the government can better handle international issues," he added.
