Magelang (ANTARA News) - Several foreign and local tourists watched the sunrise on January 1, 2013, at Mount Punthuk Setumbu, which is about three kilometres west of Borobudur Temple, Magelang district, Central Java.

The sunrise could be seen from space, about 1,300 meters above sea level. The sun rose at about 5.25 am.

An outline of the sun was seen for about 30 minutes at Punthuk Setumbu. The sun rose from south of Borobudur.

Punthuk Setumbu Hill in Karangrejo Village, Borobudur, Magelang district, has been developed into a tourist spot.

At the top of the Punthuk Setumbu Hill, which is about 425 meters above sea level, visitors can park their vehicles at a parking lot. Visitors have to pay Rp 15,000 to visit the place. Coffee and tea is provided to visitors.

The Chairman of the Tourism Karangrejo Village, Walidi, said about 80 tourists and local people watched the sunrise on January 1, 2013 at Mount Punthuk Setumbu.

"About eight visitors stayed at the top of the hill since the sunset on December 31, 2012. At 4am on January 1, 2013, several visitors decided to watch the sunrise at Mount Punthuk Setumbu," he said.

He said about 20 tourists watch the sunrise at Mount Punthuk Setumbu everyday.
