"Whatever the award is, I never think of it, because for me the most important thing is to work as best as I can for the people," Jokowi said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Former Surakarta mayor and now Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo, popularly known as Jokowi, has been confirmed by The City Mayors Foundation as the world`s third best mayor, but Jokowi said the award was not something special for him.

"Whatever the award is, I never think of it, because for me the most important thing is to work as best as I can for the people," Jokowi said at Jakarta city hall on Tuesday.

According to him, what he has been doing so far was to work as best as possible but it was the right of the people to value his performance.

"I always try to render the people the best thing I can do because I am supposed to do so for them, and they have the right to value my performance," said the former Surakarta mayor.

Jokowi admitted that when he was the mayor of Surakarta, he did not think of any reward which was not very important for him because people`s satisfaction was his primary concern.

"I never do something with a hope to get an award. For me, people`s satisfaction is my primary concern. But I am grateful anyway for the award from the The City Mayors Foundation," Jokowi said.

The City Mayors Foundation was established in 2003 to promote good, open, and fair local governments around the world.

Besides Jokowi, the world`s first best mayor award went to Bilbao Mayor Inaki Azkuna in Spain, and the second went to Perth Mayor Lisa Scaffidi in Australia. (*)
