Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Governor of Jakarta, Joko Widodo, also known as Jokowi, has come up with six steps to solve the problem of floods in the city.

These six steps have been submitted to the People`s Consultative Assembly so that authorities can get the support of the Central Government in the implementation of the steps.

"I have requested the People`s Consultative Assembly to get the support of the Central Government to solve the problem of floods," said Jokowi.

According to Jokowi, the first step is to accelerate the resettlement of homes and people along the bank of the Ciliwung River.

Ciliwung River is a major river in Jakarta, which is connected to Bogor and Depok, West Java.

Jokowi said the second step is to carry out resettlement programmes and look into river normalisation in Pesanggrahan, Angke and Sunter in North Jakarta, which are close to water bodies.

The third step is to repair a canal that was ruined because of floods last week. The next step is to build huge reservoirs in Ciawi (Bogor) and Cimanggis (Depok).

The fifth step is to build infiltration wells in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok and Tangerang.

"We will build infiltration wells to improve surface drainage," he said.

Jokowi said the sixth step is to install sump pumps to prevent accumulation of water in North Jakarta.

According to Jokowi, if these six steps are not effective in solving the problem of floods in Jakarta, he will consider moving the capital city to another region in Indonesia.

"It is important to work closely with the Central Government to solve the problem of floods in Jakarta," he said.(*)
