Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Police shot dead two and arrested one of the suspected members of the Red Devil, a group of motorcycle thieves in Jakarta.

Police are still hunting for other suspected members of the group, West Jakarta chief detective Adj. Sr. Comr Hengky Haryadi said here on Monday.

Hengky said the two dead suspects are identified as BR alias BH (40) and HD alias Acay (33), and the one arrested is Eeng, who is the driver of the group.

The two were shot as they attempted to escape when they were brought from Serang in Banten to Jakarta early Monday, he said.

He said the group operated using a car putting up a sticker with a writing "Red Devil" looking for targets in deserted roads in Depok, West Java.

The gang used knives or firearms to force the owners to handover their motorcycles, he said.

Police have also confiscated a car, two units of motorcycle, two knives and a locally assembled firearm.(*)
