Jakarta (Antara News) - West Jakarta police are investigating the possibility of involvement of city administration`s civil registration service officials in a child trafficking case uncovered recently.

"Certain officials have possibly been involved in the document forgery," West Jakarta Resort Police Command`s chief of crime investigation Adjunct Senior Commissioner Hengki Haryadi said here on Friday.

The police have already questioned one of the officials of the West Jakarta administration`s civil registration service known by his initial as J for allegedly issuing the birth certificate of one of the babies being trafficked named Teddy Lukas.

Based on the birth certificate Teddy Lukas was born on October 7, 2012 as the fourth son of a mother identified as Lindawaty Suhandojo.

The certificate was signed by the head of the Central Jakarta civil registration service, MH, by his initials, and issued on November 5, 2012.

The West Jakarta police arrested seven suspects involved in trafficking of babies namely, by their initials, LD alias T (48), A (52), HS alias L (62), R (51), M (57), E (40) and LS (35) in Pesing Koneng RT10/08 Number 49, Kedoya Utara, Kebon Jeruk, on January 2, 2013..

From them the police have also confiscated a family card which is believed to be a forged document citing Lauw Andi as the father of the family living on Jalan A Gang A-IX Number 9 RT08/07, Kartini, Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta, issued by the Sawah Besar sub-district head F by his initial.

The suspects will be charged with violating Article 83 of Law Number 23, 2002 on child protection carrying a penalty of 15 years in jail and a fine of Rp60 million. (*)
