Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Dutch Foreign Minister Frans Timmersmans met Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama at the City Hall on Wednesday to offer help to preserve an old Kota district area of Jakarta.

The tourist area of old Kota district in North Jakarta constitutes a cultural inheritance of the Indonesian people, therefore, it should be preserved, Timmermans said after a meeting with Basuki.

He said the Dutch government wants to share its experience with the Jakarta administration in preserving old towns to be made an attractive tourist object and an income earner.

"We will show ways to develop Kota into an attractive tourist object in Jakarta to contribute to the income of the city administration," he said.

Basuki said the city administration welcomes the offer from the Dutch government.

"The Dutch government has held architectural data and map of the old Kota district. We, therefore, welcome the offer to help in designing the preservation of the old district," he said.

The district of Kota still has many old buildings dating back to Dutch colonial time .(*)
