Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Industry Ministry`s Director General for Manufacturing-based Industry, Panggah Susanto, said that the increase of minimum wage (UMP) could not be applied to all industries.

"Industries that high cost components would not be equally treated, because the increase will burden themselves," he said in a phone talks here on Friday.

Such labor-intensive industries such as textiles, footwear and furniture will find difficulty in rising the minimum wage of their employees to a level of Rp2.2 million in Jakarta.

Therefore, Ministry of Industry has coordinated with Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration to review the suspension of minimum wage increase.

"We have talked to Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration, so that the provisions could be applied equally to all industries," he said.

However, he added, there has been no decision on the talks.

Employers who objected to the increase of minimum wage may seek suspension to governor through the provincial employment agencies.

The increase of minimum wage in Jakarta in 2013 reached over 44 percent to Rp2,2 million from Rp1,53 million.(*)
