Riyadh (ANTARA News/Xinhua-OANA) - Saudi Arabia launched on Monday (March 18) a new portal to connect detainees and inmates with their families, according to Al Arabia TV.

Through the portal all conventional paperwork will be converted to online applications to save time and efforts of the families, the spokesperson of the Saudi Interior Ministry told the TV channel.

Through the portal, the families of the suspects and convicts could apply to get visitation permission. The confirmation of the visit permission will be sent to the families through mobile phone messages.

Through the portal, detainees and inmates could interact with their families through emails or phone or video calls.

The announcement didn`t clarify if the service is only limited to Saudi prisoners, or it also includes foreign prisoners who could interact through the portal with their families living outside Saudi Arabia.
