"We continue increasing the fishery products..."
Painan (ANTARA News) - Pesisir Selatan District Government, West Sumatra, has set 33,000 tons of its fishery products target in 2013, head of the district Maritime and Fisheries affairs office, Edwil Noer said here on Thursday.

"We continue increasing the fishery products especially the fish catch in order to improve the people`s economy," Edwil said.

According to him, the district Maritime and Fisheries affairs office recorded the fish catch product in 2012 reached 32,264.2 tons or higher than 28,890 tons in the previous year.

In 2012 the district administration provided Rp8.542 billion in fund to finance 61 activities of 11 programs, he said, adding that in 2013 the local government has allocated Rp12.648 billion in fund.

Pesisir Selatan District which shares border with Indian Ocean has large potentials of fishery resources.

The previous amount of fish catch product is only about 26 to 30 percent of the district sustainable fish potentials, amounting about 140,000 tons per year, he said.

Edwil also noted that minimum mastery of technology by fishermen led to lower amount of fish catch product compared to the district sustainable fish potentials.
