Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Eight Myanmarese immigration detainees had been killed during a clash at an Indonesian immigration detention center in Belawan, North Sumatra, on Friday.

"Based on information we received the clash among the Myanmarese detainees occurred at 1.30 am local time, leaving eight deaths," the head of the National Police public information bureau, Brigadier General Boy Rafli Amar, said here on Friday.

He said actions had been taken with regard to law enforcement and to localize the incident and prevent further clashes.

"Investigation has been carried out by the resort police in Belawan supported by police from the regional police command," he added.

Boy said all of the bodies of the dead victims had been taken to the Pirngadi hospital in Medan.

He however could not as yet tell about the cause of the clash.

"I could not as yet tell about the results of initial investigation of the case or the evidence. It will be known later whether they have died of sharp weapons or blunt objects," he said. (*)
