Palembang, South Sumatra (ANTARA News) - A total of 80 athletes from 27 countries will take part in the World Water Ski Championship in Palembang lake of Jakabaring sports complex on May 3 through 5, 2013, the organizing committee spokesman said.

The participating countries are among other things, Australia, Germany, Italy, South Korea, Singapore, United States, Belgium, France, Ireland, Japan, Netherlands, Russia, Thailand, Philippines, Columbia, Belarus, Czech Republic, Finland, Chile, Malaysia and Indonesia, public relations officer of the World Water Ski Championship, Yasser Arafat said here on Thursday.

According to him, registration for the World Water Ski Championship ended on Wednesday (April 24).

The World Water Ski Championship in Palembang is the second series after the first one which took place in Mandurah, Australia, on March 15-17, 2013, he noted.

The International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (IWWF) has entrusted Palembang to conduct the World Water Ski Championship because winter falls in April in a number of European countries.

On April 30, athletes from the participating countries are expected to arrive in Palembang for weather adjustment in Palembang and to have exercises in the Jakabaring lake, the spokesman said.

Jakabaring lake is the best location for the World Water Ski Championship and has attracted more world athletes to participate in, Arafat quoted the IWWF president Kono Ritschard as saying.
