Jakarta (ANTARA News) - State-owned Enterprise (SOE) Minister Dahlan Iskan said he was trying to finish the prototype of a second generation electric car this year.

"The team is now working hard to finish it before the summit of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in October 2013," the minister said after attending a coordination meeting on the construction of Trans Sumatra toll roads at the building of the Finance Ministry office here on Thursday.

He said that the second generation electric car had two types, namely Selo and Arimbi.

Selo is an electric car of the sport type with equal class of Ferrari which would replace the previous Tucuxi car (which has been failed). Arimbi meanwhile is an electric car of the Alphard class.

Selo is named after a Javanese word meaning stone. It is being developed by a young man named Riki Elson.

The minister said Selo car is designed with a gear box transmission technology which is different from the previous Tucuxi car which was not equipped with a gear box.

The main team which is preparing the second generation car is composed of three teams of the Riki Elson team, Dasep Ahmadi team and Ravi Desai team.

Even though he is determined to finish the car before the holding of the APEC summit in October, the minister acknowledged that he was unwilling to put pressures on the team.

"When the first generation electric car was built I always came to see it every week but now I come to see it once in a while," he said.

According to Dahlan, if he comes to see it every week, it would leave the impression that he was putting pressures on them.

"Just let it proceed naturally," said Dahlan.(*)
