This baby has a rare abnormality called dicephalus parapagus on joined twins."
Cilacap, Central Java (ANTARA News) - A baby with two head was born in Duta Mulya Maternity Hospital of Cilacap, Central Java, with his newborn weighing 4.2kg.

"The baby boy is the son of Usman (36) and Munjiah (27), residents of Purwosari Village, Wanareja Subdistrict of Cilacap," Director of Duta Mulya Maternity Hospital Tatang Mulyana said here Thursday.

The healthy baby, having newborn size of 46 centimeter, was born on Wednesday (June 26) at 21:25 pm through caesar surgery.

"This baby has a rare abnormality called dicephalus parapagus on joined twins," Mulyana said.

The baby was not categorized as Siamese twins as the twins share a common body from the neck or upper chest downwards, having only a pair of limbs and a set of reproductive organs, and a pair of arms and legs, Mulyana said.

The abnormality might be caused by genetic mutation during the twinning event at about 13-14 days after fertilization, Mulyana said.

"There might be an external factor affecting during the division process of the egg cell. The carrying mother might consume particular medicine that halt the division process, stopping at the neck," Mulyana said.

The dicephalus parapagus anomaly was very rare, occurring one in 200,000 births.

The baby would be taken to Sardjito Hospital, Yogyakarta, and will be proposed to get intensive care from the maternity insurance program (Jampersal).

Jampersal is a government-funded childbirth insurance program to promote more childbirths in healthcare facilities.

There were previously two babies born with the same condition born in 2009 and 2012 in Indonesia, Mulyana said.

Meanwhile, the baby`s father, Usman said he had no idea how to pay the medical bill.

"If he is taken to Sardjito Hospital, I don`t know how to pay the bill. I only work as a carpenter," Usman said.
