Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A total of 300 Indonesian students will begin classes for the 2013 academic year in the Netherlands in September at various universities and study programs in the country.

The number of Indonesian students who will study in the Netherlands this year is more than that of the previous year, the Director of Nuffic Neso Indonesia, Mervin Bakker said in a statement received by Antara here on Monday.

According to him, this increasing number shows the high quality of higher education that will be received by the students in the Netherlands.

"Creativity and pioneering spirit are among the characteristics of higher education in the Netherlands. Universities in the Netherlands focus on innovation and the professors determine to train the students in solving problems," Mervin said.

He explained the Netherlands offers world-class system of higher education where its 12 universities occupy the top 200 at the Times World University rankings. The eminent study fields in the Netherlands include those on business, economics, engineering and law.

In addition, the Netherlands also offers such particular specialization fields as water management and food engineering.

At the pre-departure briefing held by Nuffic Neso Indonesia recently, the Dutch Ambassador to Indonesia Tjeerd F. De Zwaan said building friendships with other international students through the introduction of language, culture, food and way of life was important.

"It will broaden the view and help create understanding among the students . As in the Netherlands, you will be an ambassador for your country and when you return home, you can be an ambassador for the Netherlands", Ambassador De Zwaan said.
