Ambon, Maluku (ANTARA News) - At least two villagers were killed on Tuesday in landslide in the village of Batu Merah, Ambon, the Maluku regional disaster control agency (BPBD) said.

Heavy downpour since Monday night triggered the landslide falling on a rented house with 8 people inside, Kifly Wakanno, secretary of the regional BPBD , said.

Three were found safe and three others were still missing, Kifly said here on Tuesday

"The Maluku BPBD has provided fund aid for the burial of the two dead victims," he said.

Meanwhile , two of four flooding victims belonging to a family were also reported missing in nearby area of Batu Gajah with the others two safely rescued and evacuated to a hospital.

An employee of the regional forestry service Rudy Latupeirissa was also reported died from flooding related cause.

Flooding hit and inundated houses in more than tens villages in the area and killed domestic animals.

A number of roads such as in Galala, Batu Merah and Pohon Puleh were blocked by landslides and floods.

Schools were closed in some areas because of difficulty in transport as a number of bridges collapsed.

The victims have not received aid either from BPBD or the Ambon social affairs service.
