Denpasar - Bali exported 77.58 million worth of products of small industries in the first five months of the year , up 12.69 percent on-year, the regional office of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) said.

"Small industries contributed 36.7 percent to the country`s total export earnings of US$216.92 million in the January-May period this year, Bali`s spokesman I Ketut Teneng said here on Wednesday.

The products of small industries exported from Bali included plastic handicrafts , footwear, textiles and garments and canned fish.

Textile and garments contributed the largest portion to Bali`s earnings from the exports of small industries, followed by canned fish .

In the first five months of the year, Bali`s textile and garment exports were valued at US$60.65 million, up 36.46 percent from the same period last year.

Its exports of canned fish were valued at US$8.90 million in the first five months of the year, down 30.52 percent from the same period last year.

Exports of footwear totaled 195,808 pairs valued at US$1.07 million and those of bags totaled 195,808 million pieces valued at US$1.07 million.

Textiles and garments were exported to the United States, Malaysia, Japan, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong and European countries.

Earlier BPS said Bali`s exports had continued to rise despite slump besetting the world market.

Teneng said Bali`s foreign exchange earning from the sales on the domestic market increased on growing number of foreign tourists to the world famous tourist island.

Many of the tourists visiting Bali are business people, he said.
