Jayapura (ANTARA News) - A young man was killed and two others were seriously injured in a communal conflict in the village of Womaroma, Distrik Wamena, the regency of Jayawijaya, Papua on Monday morning, police said.

Wamena police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Johnny Eddizon Isir said the body of the dead victim identified later as Asman Wakerkwa (19) was still at a public hospital in Wamena for medical examination.

The two injured youths Hardi Hilapok (15) with wound on the head and Urbanus Kosay (20) with broken lips and wounds on the head and face, were also at the hospital for medical treatment.

Asman died from deep stabbing on his left chest.

"It was a problem over illicit sex. Failure in coming to a compromise ended in violence," Johnny said.

He said he was in the location together with a number of community leaders to prevent the spread of the conflict.

"We hope to settle the conflict in police office," he said.

He said the tense condition made it impossible yet for the police to find details of the conflict and arrest the perpetrators.(*)
