I will declare it as part of the government`s efforts to address the issue."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government is getting ready to issue a package of economic policies on Friday to reduce the negative impact of recent global economic developments on the national economy.

"The package will be released in two days. On Friday morning, I will declare it as part of the government`s efforts to address the issue," President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said here on Wednesday.

The President added that technical ministers would then announce the individual economic policies and would start implementing them on the following day.

These economic policies are intended to maintain economic growth amidst concerns over the latest global economic developments, he stated.

He confirmed that the policies aimed to prevent mass lay-offs, stabilize the rupiah`s exchange rate against the dollar, and maintain the balance of payments and trade.

Bank Indonesia Governor Agus Martowardojo told reporters prior to a restricted meeting with President Yudhoyono that the central bank would continue to maintain the balance of payments and control the inflation rate despite recent economic developments that have put the rupiah under pressure.

"We need to address domestic developments related to the balance of payments. Bank Indonesia will keep monitoring and responding to these developments by issuing monetary policies. We will keep the inflation rate and balance of payments under control," he affirmed.

He also made assurances that the central bank was committed to maintaining financial stability and sustainable economic growth.

According to the Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate, as of August 20, 2013, the rupiah was being traded at Rp10,504 per dollar, down from Rp10,451 per dollar the day before.
