Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Police anti-terror squad Densus 88 has recaptured two terrorist convicts who escaped after the July 11 riot at the Tanjung Gusta prison in Medan, North Sumatra.

The two terrorist convicts, identified as Agus Sunyoto alias Syafaruddin alias Gapek (28) and Ridwan alias Ismail (52), were recaptured in Siak district, North Sumatra, at 05.30 a.m. on Thursday, spokesman of the National Police Headquarters Brig. Gen. Boy Rafli Amar said in a short message text on Thursday.

"For the time being, they are being held at the Kandis police station," he said.

Agus Sunyoto and Ridwan were imprisoned for involvement in a robbery at the branch of Bank CIMB Niaga in Medan and a shooting case at Hamparan Perak police precinct in North Sumatra.

They had been put on the police`s wanted list since they escaped from the prison.

As of August 20, police have recaptured 114 escapees from the Tanjung Gusta prison since the July 11 mass jailbreak that left five people dead.

More than 210 inmates escaped after creating a riot in the prison.

Head of the correctional institution Muji Raharjo said the prisoners escaped after some of them set fire on the prison administration office.

The prisoners also held 15 prison guards hostage before they broke away, he said.

It is believed the rioting began after shortage in water supply as a result of electricity problem in the prison.

The prison had about 2,400 inmates before the incident.
