Singapore (ANTARA News/CNA) - The Singapore Film Commission Advisory Committee has selected local feature film "Ilo Ilo" as Singapore`s entry for the Academy Awards under the Best Foreign Language Film category.

Earlier this year, the movie by local film-maker Anthony Chen won the Camera d`Or Award at the Cannes Film Festival in France.

The commission said "Ilo Ilo" was chosen to represent Singapore because of its thought-provoking storyline and excellence in execution and performance.

Entries for the awards will be shortlisted, with the nominations scheduled to be announced on January 16.

The 86th Oscars are set to take place on 2 March.

Director of Singapore Film Commission Yeo Chun Cheng said: "Ilo Ilo" is a uniquely Singapore story about resilience in family relationships, a theme which also resonates with the rest of the world.

"The Singapore Film Commission Advisory Committee is proud to have chosen `Ilo Ilo` from among a list of strong contenders to be Singapore`s entry to the Academy Award`s `Best Foreign Language` category for its excellence in execution and performance, accentuated by a thought-provoking storyline."
