The head of state has urged the national police chief, together with his men, to continue their tasks in maintaining order and security.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono expressed his concern over a shooting incident on Tuesday night that had left a police officer dead.

"He knows about the incident that occurred last night and has deplored it. The coordinating minister for political, security and legal affairs, I think, has issued a formal statement about it, representing the government. The government has deplored the incident and sent his condolences to his family," presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasah said on Wednesday.

He said the head of state has urged the national police chief, together with his men, to continue their tasks in maintaining order and security.

"The police should catch the perpetrators and understand their motives because although the national police chief has not told about it last night, similar incidents have occurred before. At the time. the president also ordered the national police chief to continue his tasks to assure public security," he said.

He said "the police is still working right now and certainly, the office of the coordinating minister for political, security and legal affairs in cooperation with the police and the State Intelligence Agency will also work to uncover their motive. Let us just wait for the police`s statement about it," he said.

A police officer was shot dead on Tuesday night on Jalan Rasuna Said while escorting trucks carrying construction project materials.

Two police officers have recently also been attacked in to death in Ciputat, Tangerang and the perpetrators have not yet been seized until now. (*)
