Bali (ANTARA News) - Indonesia and Papua New Guinea (PNG) signed an action plan on the implementation of comprehensive partnership between the two countries on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting on Monday.

The action plan was signed by Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa and his PNG counterpart Rimbink Pato in the presence of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Prime Minister Peter Charles Paire O`Neill.

"As we know, the action plan is a follow-up to PNG prime minister`s visit to Indonesia several months ago to step up bilateral relations between the two countries," said Marty after signing the action plan.

He noted that with the signing of the action plan, steps toward the comprehensive partnership were clearer and more measurable.

Marty said PNG, which is directly adjacent to Indonesia, has an important role in supporting the sovereignty of the Indonesian nation.

In addition, the minister said the governments of Indonesia and Vietnam have also signed a plan of action on the implementation of strategic partnership between the two countries for 2014-2018 period.
