Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) grilled the wife of suspended Constitutional Court chief judge Akil Mochtar for five hours as a witness here on Tuesday.

Ratu Rita left the KPK building at around 2:50 p.m., accompanied by her lawyer, Tamsil Sjoekoer, but she declined to speak to the media about her questioning.

She has never made any comment since Akil Mochtar was named a suspect in bribery cases linked to disputes over the results of elections for the district heads of Gunung Mas in Central Kalimantan and Lebak in Banten.

Rita had initially failed to appear for questioning at an appointment scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 16. Her lawyer said at the time that she had not avoided the interrogation but had simply been out of town in Putussibau, West Kalimantan, to visit her parents.

The KPK has banned Rita from traveling abroad for six months.

Rita is known to own a company called CV Ratu Sumagar, which is located in Pontianak, West Kalimantan.

Her company has become the subject of public debate because it is believed to have been used to launder money from Akil`s cases of corruption.

The Financial Transactions Analysis and Reporting Center has discovered irregularities in the company`s financial transactions that are worth a billion rupiah.

Akil, through his lawyer, Otto Hasibuan, has said he knows nothing about the company`s accounts.

"With regard to CV (the company), you had better ask his wife about it since Akil knows nothing about the accounts there," Otto said on Wednesday (Oct. 16).

Akil was arrested after KPK investigators caught him red-handed on Oct. 2, at his official residence, allegedly receiving bribes.

He was caught along with Chairun Nisa, a member of the House of Representatives` Commission II, and businessman Cornelis Ndhalau.

The KPK has named six suspects in the two bribery cases involving Akil.

In connection with the Gunung Mas case, the KPK has named AM (Akil Mochtar) and CH (Chairun Nisa) as suspects, accusing them of allegedly having received bribes, and Gunung Mas district head HB (Hambit Bintih) and CHN (Cornelis Nhalau) as suspects for allegedly offering these bribes.

The KPK has named AM and STA (Susi Tur Handayan), a lawyer, as suspects in the Lebak case for allegedly receiving bribes.

TCW (Tubagus Chaeri Wardana), who is the younger brother of Banten Governor Ratu Atut Chosiyah and the husband of Tangeran Selatan Mayor Airin Rachmi Diany, was named a suspect for allegedly paying the bribes.(*)
