Pidie, Aceh Darussalam (ANTARA News) - At least 24 school buildings were damaged by a 5.6-magnitude earthquake that hit the Tangse sub-district, Aceh Darussalam, on Oct. 22, 2013.

Hundreds of students - from elementary school to senior high school - are now forced to study in emergency tents because their school buildings were damaged by the earthquake, Saibullah of the Tangse education office remarked on Friday.

The disaster inflicted material losses worth Rp6.1 billion in education infrastructure, he said.

Military officers have been deployed to help clear the ruins and the debris from the damaged school buildings.
