Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA News) - National Defense Forces (TNI) chief Gen. Moeldoko has pledged to take stern action against those who attacked a police post in Karawang district, West Java.

The assailants are believed to be servicemen.

"Any serviceman involved in drug abuse or a large-scale brawl will be sternly dealt with," he warned at the Bali provincial police headquarters on Friday.

Security agencies are investigating the attack on the police post to discover who the mastermind of the attack is, he added.

"However, nothing can be confirmed at this point. The case is still being investigated," he said.

Internal battalion 305 in Karawang district is investigating the attack to check if any of its servicemen are involved, he added.

It is believed that a misunderstanding between an on-duty police officer and serviceman led to the attack.

In a directive to military and police personnel at the Bali provincial police headquarters, Gen. Moeldoko noted that the fickle and unpredictable nature of younger members was one of the chief causes of conflict, forcing the institutions they worked for to become involved.

Personal issues often led to political situations that had strategic consequences, he added.
