Bandung, West Java (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono assured citizens that he is constantly monitoring the situation in Thailand to ensure the security of Indonesians residing there.

"The President continued monitoring the development of the situation in Thailand and receiving reports from the foreign minister," Presidential Special Aide for International Relations Teuku Faizasyah informed newsmen here on Thursday.

Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa has always reported the development of political situations in Thailand. At the same time, Marty has made assurances that procedures ensuring the safety of citizens are operational, Faizasyah stated.

"We have raised the alert status. This is not the first incident. Similar incidents have occurred many times before, and so, standard operating procedures have been implemented at our embassy. Indonesians residing in Thailand, to my knowledge, have also been able to adopt anticipatory measures. Based on past experiences, they have learned what to do," he said.

The political situation in Thailand has worsened in the past few days. Demonstrators are demanding the resignation of current Prime Minister Yingluck Sinawatra. (*)
