Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA News) - A team from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is investigating a recent accident at PT Freeport that left one person dead.

The companys corporate communications vice president, Daisy Primayanti, confirmed to ANTARA here on Tuesday that, at around 4am on Sunday, a large boulder of rock tumbled from a mining ore chute and landed on a vehicle at the DOZ underground mining area.

Two people were in the vehicle at the time; one of them was killed, while the other was wounded and taken to hospital, she added.

"The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has been informed about it," she pointed out.

She added that the companys management and workers had conveyed their condolences to the bereaved families.

The freeport worker who was killed by the boulder at the Mile 74 underground area in Tembagapura district, Mimika, on Sunday has been identified as Fikrizal Utama, 37.

The victim was in a pick-up truck at loading point 1E North Underground DOZ, when ore deposits fell on the car as a result of the boulder movement from the cut-loading point 1 E North gate.

Another Freeport worker, Peman Gombo, who was also in the car, was injured in the incident. (*)
