Kota Baharu (ANTARA News) - The number of evacuees in two flood-hit districts in Kelantan rose from 897 people Saturday night to 1,050 people Sunday morning.

A Kelantan Fire and Rescue spokesman said Jeli had the most number of evacuees, at 999 people who were being sheltered at four flood relief centres.

"They have been placed at Sekolah Kebangsaan Legeh, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Ayer Lanas, Masjid Kampung Gemang and Masjid Sungai Satan," he said.

In the other district, Tanah Merah, 51 flood victims are being sheltered at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kulim.

The spokesman added that all the victims were from 178 families who had to move out after their homes were flooded when Sungai Golok overflowed its banks in Jenob yesterday morning.

Meanwhile, residents in Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas have been advised to prepare to evacuate as the water level of Sungai Golok at the border town had risen to 9.43 metres, way above the danger level of 9 metres.
