Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono chaired a special meeting with relevant ministers and officials in his office here on Tuesday, to discuss disaster mitigation action at a number of areas and the impact on economy.

"Today we are here to discuss disaster mitigation efforts, particularly for our brothers and sisters who have fallen victims to the Mount Sinabung eruption in North Sumatra. And I would like to thank the National Disaster Management Board (BNPB) and related institutions that have helped address the disasters in many areas," stated the president when opening the meeting.

Yudhoyono noted that during the past few days he has been contacting the leaders of a number of flood hit regions.

In relation with disaster mitigation efforts, the head of state explained that he had contacted the governors of Jakarta, North Sulawesi, North Sumatra and West Java.

"When I was in Bali yesterday I contacted the West Java governor for clarifications about the floods in the districts of Bekasi, Karawang and Indramayu. I will go over today to obtain first hand information about the disasters," the president assured.

He also enquired about the tackling of Mount Sinabung eruption, aid delivery, amount of required budget and the impact of eruption on agriculture fields.
