Padang, W Sumatra (ANTARA News) - The police personnel of the Sijunjung district police are investigating the untoward incident of a bus catching fire, which lead to the death of nine people and injured 10 others on Friday.

"The investigation is still ongoing in an effort to find the cause of the bus incident. The Po Family Raya bus was carrying 36 passengers when it burst into flames," stated Commissioner Edison, deputy chief of the Sijunjung district police.

An identification team of the local police was investigating the accident scene in a bid to uncover the cause of the bus catching fire, Edison noted, adding that the police had questioned several witnesses related to the fatal bus accident.

The bodies of the victims were taken to a nearby general hospital for identification by a medical team from the West Sumatra provincial police, acting head of the Sijunjung District Disaster Mitigation Board (BPBD) Hardiwan remarked on Friday.

"The police officers faced difficulties in identifying the bodies of the victims after the bus burst into flames," he pointed out.

Hardiwan explained that the police personnel had taken the injured people to three public health service posts in West Sumatras Sinjunjung district for prompt medical attention.
