Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Bank Indonesia said improvement in the countrys economic fundamentals has eased the pressure on rupiah exchange rate.

In January, 2014 , rupiah closed at the level of 12,210 per US dollar or a loss of 0.33 percent in a month, lower than a loss of 1.71 percent in December 2013, Bank Indonesian Governor Agus Martowardojo said here on Thursday.

Rupiah stood at the level of 12,075 per dollar on the average in January, or a loss of 0.7 percent in value in a month, much lower than a loss of 3.74 percent in value in December, 2013.

"With the improving trend, the real effective exchange rate (REER) on the 2006 base year, was recorded at 94.2 that the Indonesian export price competitiveness is relatively high," Agus said.

He noted activities in the financial market both in rupiah and foreign exchanges grew with transactions rising in volume and risk premium as reflected in credit default swap (CDS) declining.

In the future, Bank Indonesia will continue to be consistent in maintaining rupiah stability in line with the fundamental value, he said.
