Bandung (ANTARA News) - Chief of Mount Ciremai National Park Center Dulhadi has denied reports that the government sold Mount Ciremai, located in the Kuningan District, West Java Province, to a foreign energy company, Chevron Corporation.

"The rumors are not true. We do not know who spread the news regarding the sale of Mount Ciremai to Chevron," Dulhadi stated during a telephonic interview to ANTARA News, here on Monday.

The ANTARA News has been closely monitoring the issue, which spread through the social media on the internet, and blackberry conversations reported that Mount Ciremai was sold at Rp60 trillion to the company.

Dulhadi remarked that the agency came to know about the sales rumors from a newspaper report on Monday.

He also denied reports relating to Chevron managing the geothermal source in Mount Ciremai.

"Till date, there is no geothermal utilization in Ciremai. We do not have such information," he added.

The rumors about the Mount Ciremai sales to Chevron have been spreading since the past week.

Several Indonesians have voiced their opinions on the social media to save and preserve Mount Ciremai.
