When Nuryamin and his family were taking pictures and shopping in Wutung, a search was suddenly conducted by the PNG security authorities who found him carrying a gun with six rounds of bullet.
Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA News) - The government of Papua New Guinea on Monday released First Brigadier M Nuryamin, who was recently arrested by the PNG security authorities, from the Keerom resort police command.

The Papua Regional Police Command spokesman, Senior Commissioner Pudjo, told ANTARA that First Brigadier M Nuryamin, with the gun he carried when he was arrested, was already on the way through the RI-PNG border to the Papua Regional Police Command headquarters here.

Pudjo said immediately after First Brigadier M Nuryamin arrival he would be questioned by the Propam (Division of Profession and Security) in connection with the case.

He said the revolver that First Brigadier M Nuryamin carried along with its six bullets had already been submitted.

First Brigadier M Nuryamin was released with the help of the Indonesian Consulate in Vanimo and because of the good relations between the two countries.

Nuryamin was arrested by the PNG security authorities while he and his family visited Wutung in PNG on March 23.

When he and his family were taking pictures and shopping, a search was suddenly conducted by the PNG security authorities who found him carrying a gun with six rounds of bullet.

Nuryamin was then taken to Vanimo, the capital of the Sandaun province, and interrogated by the PNG police force and the military.

The Indonesian consul in Vanimo, Jahar Gultom, said he had handed Nuryamin and his gun to the Papua Border Agency in Skouw, Jayapura, when contacted by ANTARA.

Wutung in PNG is known as a tourist destination for people in Jayapura and its surrounding areas, while Skouw is a shopping destination for daily needs for PNG citizens because the prices of basic commodities are lower there than in Vanimo.

The distance to Vanimo from Jayapura can be covered in two hours by car.(*)
