We have to change because the state has an idea and the people have hope."
Surabaya (ANTARA News) - It is time for Indonesia to move towards becoming a progressive nation under the guidance of an ethical leader, noted Peoples Conscience (Hanura) party leader Wiranto.

"We have to change because the state has an idea and the people have hope. This change needs a spotless, honest, and resolute leader with a good conscience," Wiranto said while campaigning at Pancasila sport stadium here on Tuesday.

He stated that Indonesia was a sovereign independent country but was not completely self-reliant in all fields.

"We are an independent nation, but we are still not self-reliant in the food sector," the presidential candidate from Hanura party remarked, adding that there were many conflicts and divisions in various parts of the country.

Therefore, he noted, Indonesia needed a capable leader to unite all people, uphold the law and work towards public welfare.

Wiranto claimed that there were no corruption cases against his party.

"Hanura party has educated its cadres to be guided by their conscience, and as a result, the party has earned the reputation of being honest," Wiranto added.

He noted that for the past eight years, various survey institutes and observers had attested to Hanura's reputation as a corruption-free party.

"To be a spotless party is extremely difficult, but for Hanura, this has become possible because the cadres are guided by their conscience," Wiranto said.

The Hanura party chairman stated that a leader who is led by his or her conscience will find it easy to uphold public interest.
