Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A survey by an international consultant firm said Jakarta is full of challenges and dynamics but it has changed into a global city in many aspects.

"The new city leadership has brought about credibility and optimism. Very clear in our survey that Jakarta could top the category of Emerging Cities Outlook 2014," President Director of AT Kearney John Kurtz said.

Kurtz said based on the survey, New York, London, Paris, Tokyo and Hong Kong are five top global cities and Jakarta, Manila, Addis Ababa, Sao Paulo and New Delhi are five potential rivals to break into the ranks of global cities in the next 10 to 20 years.

Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo or Jokowi as he is popularly known, said he was pleased with the result of the survey which said Jakarta has expanded and is potential to grow to become a global city.

The study has been carried out by AT Kearney, a global management consultant, beginning 18 months earlier.

"We could use the results of the study for our evaluation to make correction of anything need to be corrected," Jokowi said here on Tuesday.

The surveys, held every two years, covered many aspects including city transport, education, health and flooding, problems that the city has yet to seriously deal with.

The study by AT Kearney , titled Global Cities Index 2014, contains category of Emerging Cities Outlook 2014, which maps out potentials of emerging cities to catch up with global cities and improve their global position in the coming decades.

In the category , Jakarta tops the ranks of 35 emerging cities in the world with potential to grow to become global cities.
