Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Low-cost airlines Citilink Indonesia had denied speculations that it will acquire Tiger Air Mandala, saying that an acquisition is a complex process.

"Who said that we will takeover Tiger Mandala. An acquisition is a complex process. That Citilink will acquire Tiger Air Mandala is an interpretation of journalists," Citilink President and CEO Arif Wibowo said in a press release on Tuesday (29/4).

The statement of the Citilink CEO also clarified several news reports about the preparedness of the airline company to acquire Tiger Air Mandala.

Established in 2001, Citilink is a subsidiary of the publicly-listed national airlines Garuda Indonesia and provides low-cost flight services. It serves city-to-city flight routes using a low-cost airlines business model.

Since July 30, 2012, Citilink has been operating as a separate business entity from Garuda Indonesia.

Based in Jakarta and Surabaya, Citilink flies 140 daily flights from Jakarta and Surabaya to other Indonesian cities of Batam, Banjarmasin, Denpasar, Balikpapan, Yogyakarta, Medan, Palembang, Padang, Ujung Pandang, Pekanbaru, Lombok, Bengkulu, Jambi, Semarang, Malang, Kupang, Pangkal Pinang, Tanjung Pandan and Bandung.

After obtaining the Air Operator's Certificate in August 2012, Citilink had carried 8 million passengers by the end of 2013, with an occupation rate of 85 percent.
