"Jokowi has wanted since the beginning a young vice presidential candidate because he is aware that a Jokowi-JK duo will create twin suns (in leading the government)," Hendri said here on Tuesday.
According to Hendri, senior politician Sabam Sirait of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) had hinted that JK should not be named Jokowis running mate, but he should serve as a senior adviser like PDIP leader Megawati Soekarnoputri.
Therefore, Jokowi and JK should curb their respective egos.
JK on Monday was named Jokowis running mate in the upcoming July 9 presidential election.
"Constraints in implementing programs will be heavier for the Jokowi-JK duo than those of the Prabowo-Hatta presidential pair-up," Hendri said.
Jokowi and Kalla were officially declared a presidential and vice presidential pair on Monday for the PDIP led coalition, which was also supported by the National Democrat Party (Nasdem), the National Awakening Party (PKB) and the Peoples Conscience Party (Hanura).
Meanwhile, Executive Director of Political Communications Institution (Polocomm) Heri Budianto said Joko Widodo and Jusuf Kalla, who pair up as presidential and vice presidential candidates, will complement each other.
"Jusuf Kalla can serve as a bridge to cultivate and conduct political communication with the parliament," Heri Budianto stated here on Monday.
He said JK was selected as the vice presidential candidate as he had experience in government and a high electability statistic.
"Currently, the chance for them to win the presidential race is becoming larger," the Polocomm executive director said.
Jokowi said he is convinced that he and Kalla can bring changes to the Indonesian nation.
Puan Maharani, the chief of the election success team of PDIP, is hopeful that the Jokowi-JK pair will remain committed and be corruption-free leaders.
"PDIP and supporters, PKB, Nasdem, and Hanura, have officially registered them with the General Election Commission (KPU) today," Puan remarked.
Puan, who is also the PDIP associate chairman, noted that Jokowi and JK are yet to follow the mechanisms and rules that have been set before campaigning starts on June 10.
Joko Widodo, who is currently the Jakarta governor, and Jusuf Kalla registered themselves at the KPU on Monday, after declaring themselves as presidential and vice presidential candidates in the company of many party members earlier that day.(*)
