Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono asked all parties in the South China Sea dispute to solve the matter peacefully and maintain stability in the Asian region.

The President made this statement at a press conference after meeting with his Philippine counterpart Benigno S Aquino III at the Malcanang palace in Manila, Philippines, on Friday.

"We are also exchanging thoughts on the importance of ASEAN and the nations in the Asian region to maintain peace and stability in our region," Yudhoyono said.

The Indonesian and ASEAN stance is clear that is to solve any dispute in a peaceful manner, without involving the military.

"We must support the spirit to solve the dispute using the international law for political and diplomatic settlement," the president added.

In the meeting, both Indonesian and Philippines head of states agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation.

Yudhoyonos visit to Philippines on May 22-24 is to attend the World Economic Forum and conduct a state visit.

The state visit is a reciprocal visit for President Aquinos visit to Indonesia previously.(*)
