A system must be developed in the eastern region."
Ternate, North Maluku (ANTARA News) - Indonesias eastern regions need fast infrastructure development to improve the welfare of the people there, vice presidential candidate M. Jusuf Kalla said.

"And it needs our seriousness. Electricity and infrastructure must be made available to improve the welfare of the people in all regions including Ternate and Ambon," he said at Dufa-dufa port here on Saturday.

He visited the port to see activities of loading and unloading of fish from fishermen and as part of his efforts to know the aspirations of the people in the region.

"The catch is good and the people have a good working spirit, but they cannot catch too much because they have no warehouse to keep it," he said.

In view of that a warehouse needs to be set up in the region to accommodate the catch, he said.

"Minimally five warehouses must be built in the region. A system must be developed in the eastern region," he added.

If serious efforts were taken, it would only take a year to build them, predicted Kalla, who is also a former vice president.

Kalla, who is the running mate of Joko Widodo, has been touring the country to campaign for the election scheduled on July 9.

Joko Widodo, or Jokowi as he is popularly known, and Jusuf Kalla would compete against former army lieutenant general Prabowo Subianto and former economic minister Hatta Rajasa in the election.
